FAQ
1. Who is eligible for support?
The 18twenty8® Financial Assistance Programme is for South African-born, female students only. They must be no younger than 18 and no older than 28 years of age. We don’t cover students from other countries who are studying at South African higher education institutions. This includes students born outside of South Africa (SA) but are naturalised citizens or permanent residents.
2. What does the 18twenty8® Financial Assistance Programme cover?
Depending on fundraising and donations, we may pay for tuition fees, textbooks, a laptop, a monthly living allowance, stationery and accommodation for one year of study. The award is not renewed automatically each year so students must maintain an above-average academic standing throughout the year in order to be considered for further support. We do not pay for graduation and/or job hunting costs.
3. When can I apply?
We’re not accepting any applications until further notice. If there are any updates or changes to the current statement, they will be indicated on our site.
4. Which qualifications and institutions are eligible?
We fund any year of study, for any qualification, at accredited higher education institutions in SA, including private institutions. This includes all postgraduate and advanced qualifications.
5. I applied for other bursaries but am waiting to hear if I was successful, can I also apply to 18twenty8® ?
No. We don’t consider students who are under consideration for other bursaries.
6. I have a NSFAS bursary but it doesn’t cover all my needs, can I also apply to 18twenty8® ?
No. We don’t consider any NSFAS-funded students.
7. When will I know about the outcome of my application?
Our Financial Assistance Programme is highly-competitive and dependent on funding from our donors. If you don’t receive a response within six months of applying, you may consider your application unsuccessful. Please do not send follow-up requests or contact us after applying. Only short-listed applicants will be contacted.
